In space, batteries must work in both very hot and very cold conditions. They must withstand a lot of radiation from the Sun. They must work in a vacuum without leaking or blowing up! They must be rugged enough to withstand the severe vibrations of a rocket launch. These batteries developed for space can also be used for non space applications.

This a battery expert from ESA, a company (ESA BIC Noordwijk incubatee M2 Power) who developed a battery using space technology and a user Solartechno Europe BV.

Dirk van Gogswaardt - M2 Power
Dirk van Gogswaardt is Chief Executive Officer of M2 Power B.V. Dirk has experience in research and development, sales and installation of Lithium-Ion based battery-systems in a wide range of applications. M2 Power currently focusses on lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries and continuously improves its range of products. As one one of the participants of European Space Agency's BIC programme, M2 Power is working on a new battery management system (BMS) that enhances its current line of modular batteries and enables them be used in an even wider range of applications, making them a true drop-in replacement for lead acid batteries. Dirk holds a Masters degree in Business Administration (specialisation: product development & innovation) from the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam

Marco Ghiradello - Solartechno Europe B.V.
Marco Ghirardello is the Chief Executive Officer and Owner of Solartechno Europe B.V. Mr. Ghirardello has experience in sales and turnkey installation of solar systems in Italy, Germany, the Netherlands & Spain. He also has experience in evaluating and preparing feasibility study for large Photovoltaic (PV) plants, conducting market analysis, and identifying off-grid industrial segment as a potential area of growth for Shell Solar. Previously, he was a Senior Project Developer at Evelop. Prior, Mr. Ghirardello was the Chief Executive Officer of Enerray, an Italy based firm focusing on providing medium and large turnkey solar plants to industrial and financial customers. He was also a Commercial Solar Sales Manager of Germany at Xantrex Technology and a business development manager at Shell Solar. He was responsible for sales of central and string inverters. Mr. Ghirardello holds a full time MBA from SDA Bocconi School of Management and a Masters degree in Aerospace Engineering. is a network meeting with specific, actual and appealing terrestrial applications developed from space technology. Monthly about 50 participants will go further into a topic led by prominent businessman, politician and scientist.
